The Galatti Award Statue was inspired by the Empathy statue given to AFS by Prof. Dr. Jaroslava (Jara) Moserova in 1971, one of our first program participants and founder of AFS Czech Republic. Jara, who passed away in 2006, was a lifelong supporter of AFS and embodied the ideals, aspirations and spirit of AFS. This statue exemplifies the mission that Stephen Galatti envisioned when he devoted his life to empowering young people to build a better, more peaceful, world.

JUN 2-SEP 5: On-line nominations by volunteers worldwide
September 12: Nominations report to partners by AFS International
SEP 12-OCT 16: Partners review local nominations and select one winner to represent their country
October 17: Deadline to submit national winners to AFS International
OCT 17-NOV 25: Steering Committee of the BOT review national winners nominations and select wineer(s)
December 5: Announcement of international winner(s) via the AFS.org website
AFS International will provide each Partner and affiliated organization with a report with statistics from nominations submitted on-line. The report can be used to verify the nomination count to select the local candidate. This report will be sent by September 12, 2008.
AFS Partners and/or affiliated organizations will set their own deadlines for selecting a local winner but all local winner information should be sent to AFS International by October 17, 2008.
Up to two international winners will be announced by AFS International on the afs.org website on December 5, 2008, to coincide with the International Volunteer Day.
